One essential and integral feature of PNG Air’s operations is its engineering facility based at Jackson’s Airport, Port Moresby.
The department employs over 130 staff from six countries and carries out all aircraft engineering and maintenance with the exception of engine overhauls and major avionics repairs which are contracted out to specialists overseas.
The engineering facility comprises a maintenance hangar, technical library, climate controlled parts inventory and specialist workshops for maintenance of items such as wheels and brakes, turbine fuel injection nozzles, upholstery and propeller assembly.
The engineering department holds Certificates of Approval from both PNG CAA and Australia’s CASA and is audited several time a year on its technical procedures to ensure international standards are maintained. PNG Air has the only engineering facility in Papua New Guinea authorised to undertake maintenance work on Australian registered aircraft and one of only very few situated outside Australia with such an approval.
