Children & Unaccompanied Minor

Children & Infants

Travel can be an exciting and memorable experience for children of all ages, but it also comes with unique challenges for parents and guardians.

At PNG Air, our ground staff and cabin crew are trained to support families, ensuring a smooth, safe, and stress-free journey.

Flying with Kids

With family-friendly policies and onboard services, PNG Air makes traveling with children easier. From priority assistance at check-in to extra care during boarding and disembarkation, our team works to reduce stress for parents and provide comfort for young travelers.

Children – Important Information

  • For ticketing purposes, a child aged 2–11 years (from their 2nd birthday until their 12th birthday) is classified as a passenger.
  • Age is determined at the date of travel commencement.
  • Children under 6 years must be accompanied by a parent/guardian or immediate family member aged 15 years or older.
  • Children aged 6–11 years must travel with a parent/guardian aged 15+ unless accepted as an Unaccompanied Minor (UM).
  • Children aged 12–15 years may travel independently, but parents/guardians can request UM service if desired.

Unaccompanied Minor

PNG Air offers a dedicated Unaccompanied Minor (UM) service for children who need to travel alone. Our team ensures that minors are supervised, safe, and cared for from check-in until they are handed over to the nominated guardian at the destination.

  • Escorting the child through check-in and boarding.
  • Close attention from cabin crew during the flight.
  • Ensuring the child is comfortable and enjoys their journey.
  • Safe handover to the nominated guardian upon arrival.
Cabin Crew

Unaccompanied children (ages 6–11) may travel on most PNG Air domestic routes. For domestic flights, children usually do not need identification. However, if requested, parents or guardians should provide proof of age, such as a birth certificate, at check-in.

Unaccompanied Minors (UMs) – Important Information

  • A child from 6 to 11 years of age is classified as UM if traveling without a parent/guardian (15+).
  • A child 12 to 15 years of age may travel as UM only at the request of the parent/guardian.
  • Children under 6 years of age must be accompanied by a person 15 years or over who is an immediate family member or authorized guardian. They may not travel as a UM.
  • Bookings for UMs cannot be made online. Please contact PNG Air directly.
  • A Special Service Request (SSR) must be added to the booking.
  • An Unaccompanied Minor form (in triplicate) must be completed prior to check-in. Forms are available online, at PNG Air offices, or at the airport.
  • Parents/guardians at both departure and arrival airports must present valid ID.
  • A maximum of 4 unaccompanied minors are permitted on a Dash 8 service and a maximum of 4 unaccompanied minors are permitted on an ATR service.
