PNG Air Welcomes New ATR Aircraft "Wewak"

Building on Record 2025 Performance.

Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea — 11 February 2026

PNG Air is set to welcome the newest addition to its fleet, an ATR 72-600 aircraft named Wewak, recognizing the region it serves and reaffirming the airline’s long-term commitment to reliable domestic aviation across Papua New Guinea.

Wewak is the first new aircraft to join PNG Air’s fleet in 2026 and arrives following a record-breaking year for the airline. Throughout 2025 — and particularly in December — PNG Air delivered its strongest operational and commercial performance to date.

The airline also finished 2025 as Papua New Guinea’s number one airline for on-time performance, achieving an industry-leading 91% on-time departure underscoring the reliability and consistency communities depend on.

“For PNG Air, fleet renewal is about supporting long-term connectivity and maintaining the performance our customers expect,” said Brian Fraser, CEO of PNG Air. “The arrival of Wewak reflects both the importance of the region and our confidence in the future of aviation in Papua New Guinea.”

Designed for PNG’s unique operating environment, the ATR 72-600 delivers improved efficiency, reliability, and performance, strengthening PNG Air’s role as essential national infrastructure.

The aircraft is expected to enter service shortly.
